Man Gunned Down in Box Hill Shooting

Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting in Box Hill that took place early morning on Thursday the 9th of April. Emergency services responded to Whitehorse Road about 1:50am after reports of an altercation.

Officers arrived and found a man with critical injuries. The 32- year-old man died at the scene. Moreover, investigators believe a fight broke out inside an apartment. Police confirmed the incident involved a shooting and that it was targeted.

Meanwhile, at around the same time, a fire alarm triggered an evacuation of residents. Fire Rescue Victoria responded after the alarm activated.

Earlier Arrests Across Victoria

Homicide Squad detectives previously arrested three people on Thursday evening. Officers made arrests in Talbot, Maryborough, and Bonnie Brook. Two 47-year-old men from Bonnie Brook were taken into custody. A 27-year-old woman from Maryborough was also arrested. All three were interviewed in relation to the incident.

Update: Murder Charge Laid

Police have now charged a 47-year-old Bonnie Brook man with murder. The charge follows the alleged shooting on Whitehorse Road. The second 47-year-old man and the woman have been released. However, they remain subject to ongoing enquiries. Meanwhile, the charged man has appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday, Friday the 10th of April. 

He was remanded in custody and will appear again before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on the 14th of August 2026.

Investigation Continues

Police maintain the attack was targeted. Detectives will continue to assess the circumstances and gather evidence in relation to the matter. Meanwhile, investigators urge anyone with information to come forward. They also encourage residents to check CCTV and dashcam footage.
