Car collides with Boronia Bus Service 753
Emergency services were called to Maryborough and Woodvale roads in Boronia shortly before 6:15pm this Wednesday 17th September after a car collided with a bus. FRV units from Stations 26 and 85 attended as did CFA units from Boronia. Ambulance Victoria paramedics attended as did a significant contingent from Victoria Police.
Impact catapult’s car into residents’ property
The Yaris, travelling down Woodvale Road failed to give way. It struck the bus near the driver’s cabin before bouncing off and crashing into the front yard of a neighbouring house. It came to rest against the front brick façade. The accident not only put the Boronia 753 Service out of action, it delayed Ventura vehicle 1028 from continuing its route.
Concerns over roundabouts and speeding
Knox News spoke with locals. They expressed concern, saying the roundabout installed along Springfield Road, that turns into Maryborough have forced buses onto Woodvale Road as an alternate route. They have observed the difficulty bus drivers have in making the turn through the roundabouts due to the length of a standard bus.
Residents told reporters another roundabout is due to be installed at the Maryborough–Woodvale intersection. Locals are more than skeptical of its practicality. They feel other measures are necessary to reduce speeding in the area. The bus traffic alone through this area, even at the time of the accident was quite remarkable. Residents spoke strongly about this type of traffic on Maryborough and Woodvale roads.
Traffic Observations
During accident operations a number of busses were observed passing through this part of Boronia. It very much seems like a normal afternoon for this neighborhood. The stretch of road is notorious for speed and has a history of accidents. Only last week, a stolen car, in an attempt to evade Victoria Police smashed through a fence directly opposite the scene of this accident.
The Drivers
Both the driver of the bus and the Toyota Yaris were interviewed at the scene. They were also tested for the presence of drugs and alcohol. This practice is standard procedure after any accident attended by Police. Paramedics tended both drivers, with the Yaris driver sustaining a minor hand injury. The driver of the bus was shaken by the ordeal. Fortunately, there were no major injuries.
