Major Crash Brings M1 to Standstill
A multi-car pile-up has brought Melbourne’s M1 to a complete standstill. The crash unfolded outbound on the Monash Freeway just after Stud Road. It occurred shortly after 2:15pm this afternoon, Sunday the 12th of April.
Emergency services rushed to the scene within minutes. Authorities treated the incident as a multiple patient emergency. Crews worked quickly to secure the area and assist the injured.
School Boy Fighting for Life
A primary school aged boy remains in a critical condition. Paramedics transported him by road to the Royal Children’s Hospital. He suffered serious upper body injuries during the collision.
Multiple Patients Taken to Hospital
Meanwhile, a woman in her 40s was taken to The Alfred Hospital. She remains in a serious condition with upper body injuries.
Another woman in her 40s was also transported to The Alfred. She is currently in a stable condition with lower body injuries.
Additionally, two females will be taken to Dandenong Hospital in stable conditions. A man will also be transported to The Alfred for treatment.
Paramedics continued assessing patients at the scene. However, transport decisions were made based on injury severity.
Traffic Chaos and Emergency Response
Traffic was quickly diverted onto Stud Road. However, outbound lanes remained heavily congested for an extended period. Motorists faced significant delays as crews managed the incident.
A HEMS air ambulance attended the scene to assist. However, it was ultimately not required for patient transport.
Cause Under Investigation
The cause of the collision remains unclear at this stage. Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
