Collision in Wantirna South Sparks Police Response
Wantirna South, Saturday 2nd August — A road traffic incident occurred shortly before 4:45pm this afternoon at the intersection of Mockridge Street and Stud Road, drawing police attention after tensions escalated between drivers.
Alleged Red Light Breach Leads to Crash
It is alleged that a black Mitsubishi, turning out of Mockridge Street, failed to obey a red traffic signal and collided with the grey Volkswagen Golf travelling south along Stud Road towards Rowville.
Driver refuses to Exchange Details
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Mitsubishi initially refused to provide identification or insurance details. Witnesses also reported aggressive and threatening behavior directed at the Volkswagen driver, pictured below being breathe tested. This causing the most concern and prompted a call to Victoria Police. Intimidating behavior was also observed being directed towards the driver’s sister, who was also present at the scene. Passing locals stopped to support the women.
Police Attend and Calm the Situation
Police arrived shortly after and conducted breath tests on both drivers, with results reportedly within legal limits. Officers then explained the legal obligations of drivers involved in a traffic collision including the requirements to exchange particular details. The exchanging of insurance details, and best practice were also discussed. After a tense start, the matter was deescalated by officers, and both parties ultimately parted ways in a civil manner.
