Two men have been arrested and charged following an alleged assault at an Eastlink Freeway service station on 22 March, after a confrontation involving a truck driver escalated into violence.
Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives allege a truck was parked near a fast-food restaurant about 12pm when two Hoppers Crossing men, aged 30 and 32, exited the vehicle, with one going to collect food.
Police say a red Subaru sedan pulled up alongside the truck before two male occupants got out and engaged in a verbal altercation with the driver.
The situation escalated, with the truck driver allegedly assaulted. There were no serious injuries reported.
The offenders fled the scene in the Subaru, travelling southbound on Eastlink.
Detectives arrested two men in Heathmont the following day.
A 20-year-old Heathmont man and an 18-year-old Carrum Downs man have been charged with common law assault and possess drug of dependence.
They were bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 16 June.
Police have confirmed the incident was initially treated as an attempted carjacking, but after further investigation it has been reclassified as an assault.
