An 82-year-old man was allegedly assaulted twice after confronting an e-scooter rider in Ferntree Gully last month.
Police say the confrontation began on the Blind Creek Trail about 1.30pm on Monday the 6th of July.
The elderly Ferntree Gully man yelled towards a teenager who he believed was riding an electric scooter too fast.
Investigators allege the teenager verbally abused the man before repeatedly striking him around the face and head.
As a result, the 82-year-old fell to the ground during the alleged attack.
Police say the teenager then stood beside the injured man while he remained on the ground.
When the victim regained his feet, the teenager allegedly struck him again.
Consequently, the elderly man fell to the ground for a second time.
Police allege the teenager then took photographs of the victim while he remained on the ground.
Witnesses assisted the elderly man following the alleged assault between Bond Street and Lewis Road.
Meanwhile, the teenager allegedly left the area on an orange and black electric scooter.
However, police say the incident did not end when the rider left the trail.
A short time later, the victim encountered the alleged offender again on Rankin Road.
Police allege the teenager approached from behind and assaulted the man for a second time.
As a result of the attacks, the 82-year-old suffered significant bruising and facial lacerations.
He also suffered bleeding but police described his injuries as non-life-threatening.
The victim went to hospital for treatment following the assaults.
Investigators have now released images of a male they believe can assist with their enquiries.
Notably, police describe the male as aged between 16 and 18 years of age, with a thin build and blond hair.
He was reportedly wearing dark clothing and a motorcycle helmet during the incident.
Police released the appeal on Monday the 10th of August, more than a month after the alleged assaults.
