Emergency Response in Bayswater
Emergency services rushed to Mountain Highway and Cumberland Avenue shortly after 3am this morning Friday the 2nd of January, following reports of a house fire. Boronia FRV and CFA units attended the scene. A BA (Breathing Apparatus) Unit also attended in support of operations. Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended. As a result, the response prevented a far more serious outcome.
Garage Fire Spreads Rapidly
The fire started in the garage before spreading through the roof of the home. Meanwhile, a nearby resident reported hearing a loud bang moments earlier. Soon after, flames were seen reaching up to three metres high.
Family Escapes Safely
At the time, a family of four was sleeping inside the property. Fortunately, working smoke alarms alerted them to the danger. Therefore, everyone evacuated safely without injury. Importantly, the family’s two dogs were also unharmed.
Fire Contained Before Further Damage
Fire crews contained the blaze before it spread to neighbouring properties. This included the nearby Bayswater Christian Assembly. Consequently, surrounding buildings were protected from damage.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, authorities have confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Fire authorities remind residents that garages are a common ignition point. Therefore, good housekeeping is essential at all times. Flammable liquids should always be stored in approved containers and kept away from ignition sources. Additionally, clutter should be minimised to reduce fire load and allow safer access.
