Ferntree Gully Rider Caught in Operation Furlong
A 51-year-old Ferntree Gully man was caught riding his motorcycle at 118km/h in a 60km/h zone. The offence took place along Mount Dandenong Tourist Road in Montrose. The rider was intercepted by police during Operation Furlong. The operation is a statewide road safety campaign aimed at curbing dangerous driving and reducing the road toll. Officers impounded his motorcycle for 30 days. He was also charged with exceeding the speed limit and driving at a dangerous speed.
Police Urge Riders to Slow Down and Stay Safe
Police say motorcyclists continue to be overrepresented in fatal and serious injury crashes across Victoria. Reckless riding, they warn, remains a major contributing factor. The man will now face a magistrate and is expected to lose his license for a significant period. Authorities are urging all riders to take care on the roads — and not become another statistic.
