Neighbours Raise Alarm After Hearing Glass Smash
A blaze lit up the night sky in Ferntree Gully after flames tore through a weatherboard home on Sykes Avenue this evening, Friday the 22nd of May.
Emergency services rushed to the scene about 8.20pm after neighbours called triple zero.
Residents heard glass smashing before they spotted flames bursting through the front windows.
Soon after, thick smoke and intense flames engulfed large sections of the property.
Meanwhile, shocked neighbours gathered outside as crews arrived.
Firefighters Battle Fully Involved Blaze
Fire crews arrived to find the house fully involved.
Flames ripped through the weatherboard property as firefighters worked to contain the blaze as quickly as possible and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how the fire started, however investigators are working to determine the cause.
Family Believed Away During Fire
Neighbours indicated a family with small children lives at the address.
Despite those concerns, it is understood nobody was home when the fire broke out. No injuries have been reported at this stage.
The scene remained active late Friday night as emergency crews worked to ensure the scene was made safe.
