A Ferntree Gully man faces multiple charges after police seized firearms, ammunition and 3D printers during searches conducted Thursday the 6th of August.
Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives worked alongside officers from the Croydon Divisional Response Unit.
The investigation began after the Australian Border Force provided intelligence to police.
This resulted in investigators probing the alleged manufacture of firearms at a property in Orna Street, Ferntree Gully.
Police allege the property was linked to the manufacture of firearms and firearm parts.
Investigators subsequently executed a search warrant at the Ferntree Gully property.
At the same time, police searched a storage facility in Scoresby as part of the investigation.
During the searches, investigators located five firearms, including long arms and handguns.
Police also seized firearm parts, ammunition and several 3D printers.
Investigators allege the printers were being used to manufacture firearm parts.
In addition, police reported finding several drugs of dependence during the searches.
Police arrested a 39-year-old Ferntree Gully man and took him into custody.
Investigators charged him with manufacturing general category handguns and importing firearm barrels contrary to the Customs Act.
He also faces charges involving trafficable quantities of firearms and possessing unregistered long arms.
Additionally, police charged him with possessing unregistered 3D-printed general category handguns and a prohibited weapon.
Drug possession charges laid involve DMT, methylamphetamine, butanediol and cannabis.
The man also faces an affray charge.
Police remanded the man in custody following the charges.
He was due to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Friday the 7th of August.
