Heathmont Home fully ablaze
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded swiftly to a significant house fire on Wainui Avenue, Heathmont, shortly after 11am today, following multiple emergency calls made to Triple Zero (000). Upon arrival, firefighters were confronted with a fully engulfed 10 by 15-metre single-storey weatherboard home, with flames already spreading to the roof of a neighbouring property. Crews in breathing apparatus entered both homes to conduct thorough searches and confirmed that no one was inside either of the properties at the time of the fire. It was later confirmed that the residents were not home when the blaze broke out.
Pet Rescue
A resident of the street, familiar with the affected family, bravely entered the scene before emergency services arrived and managed to rescue the family dog. Sadly, firefighters later found the family’s cat deceased within the home.
Evacuation and Aftermath
Due to the significant volume of smoke in the area, several nearby residents were evacuated and monitored by Ambulance Victoria as a precaution. The fire was brought under control at 11:52am—38 minutes after FRV arrived on scene. One home has been destroyed, while the neighbouring house has suffered considerable damage. FRV crews are expected to remain on site for several hours to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. The cause of the fire is yet to be formally confirmed but is currently believed to be an electrical fault. It is not considered to be suspicious in nature. Investigations into today’s events are ongoing.
