Knox Councillor Suspended Again After Misconduct Finding
A Knox councillor has been suspended for the second time in three months following a misconduct finding over comments made during a mayoral election debate.
The latest ruling follows complaints from two fellow councillors who alleged they faced abusive language during discussions surrounding the council’s leadership vote.
As a result, the councillor will serve a one-month suspension and provide formal apologies.
Complaints Stem from Mayoral Election Debate
The complaints related to discussions during Knox Council’s mayoral election process in late 2025.
Two councillors alleged the councillor called them “f–kwits” and “idiots” during the debate. They also claimed he told them to “f— off”.
Furthermore, one councillor alleged he described her as a “waste of a councillor”.
The councillors argued the comments crossed professional boundaries and created an intimidating environment.
Independent Arbiter Upholds Complaints
An independent arbiter investigated the allegations before delivering a determination.
After reviewing the evidence, the arbiter found it was more likely than not the language had been used.
The ruling also noted a later text message apology for swearing supported the findings.
Consequently, the arbiter determined the conduct breached expected standards for elected representatives.
Suspension Marks Second Penalty This Year
The suspension began on June 10 and will run for one month.
Importantly, this marks the councillor’s second suspension within three months.
Earlier this year, another misconduct finding resulted in a separate suspension over comments made during a council debate and subsequent social media activity.
Therefore, the latest decision adds to ongoing scrutiny surrounding conduct standards within Knox Council.
Councillor Acknowledges Conduct
