Knox locals are invited to roll up their sleeves for National Tree Planting Day on Sunday, 27 July, by helping to plant 3,000 native trees, shrubs, and ground covers at Koolamara Waters Reserve in Ferntree Gully.
This free, family-friendly event aims to strengthen habitat corridors for native flora and fauna, connecting the reserve to surrounding areas such as the Dandenong Ranges. The planting initiative also supports the Council’s goal of increasing Knox’s tree canopy cover to 30% by 2050, aligning with the Biodiversity Resilience Strategy 2024–2034 and the Climate Response Plan.
Koolamara Waters is a known hotspot for waterbirds and local biodiversity, making it a prime location for regeneration efforts. The planting day also offers the community a chance to meet local environmental volunteer groups and other nature lovers.
A free BBQ will be provided by the Rotary Club of Ferntree Gully, and planting tools will be available on-site. Participants are asked to bring their own gloves and water bottles.
