Extreme Speed Detected During Overnight Patrol
Nunawading Highway Patrol officers detected extreme speeding on the Monash Freeway early this morning, Monday the 19th of January. Officers were conducting speed enforcement near Mulgrave about 3am. Speed detection equipment recorded an Audi allegedly travelling at 226km/h in a 100km/h zone. Police immediately coordinated an interception to reduce risk to other motorists.
Vehicle Intercepted Near Jacksons Road
Officers intercepted the Audi near Jacksons Road shortly after the detection. Police spoke with the learner driver and confirmed his license status at the roadside. The driver was a 23-year-old man from Narre Warren.
Supervising Passenger Allegedly Disqualified
The learner was accompanied by an adult passenger at the time of the interception. However, police allege the passenger was a disqualified driver. As a result, the learner allegedly breached supervision requirements.
Charges Expected and Vehicle Impounded
Police expect to charge the driver on summons with speeding and learner supervision offences. Officers also impounded the Audi for 30 days. The impoundment carries a total cost of $1,016.
