Major Shop Fire Hits Tunstall Square Doncaster East

Emergency Crews Rush to Scene

Emergency services responded to a major shop fire at Tunstall Square Shopping Centre in Doncaster East last night, Tuesday the 20th January. Fire crews received multiple Triple Zero calls shortly before 9pm. Callers reported heavy smoke and visible flames from the shopping strip. Firefighters arrived to find the fire already well established. They immediately escalated the response. Twenty emergency vehicles in all attended the incident.

Firefighters Contain Spread Risk

Crews wearing breathing apparatus worked to stop the fire spreading to nearby businesses. Strong winds pushed thick smoke across surrounding areas. Visibility dropped in several sections of the complex. Fire crews continued active suppression efforts throughout the evening. At 10:30pm, crews had not yet brought the fire under control.

Crowds Gather and Smoke Warning Issued

Hundreds of onlookers gathered in nearby car parks. Many spectators shared videos and images across social media platforms. Authorities issued a community advice message due to the heavy smoke. Residents received advice to avoid the area where possible.

Police and Ambulance Support Operations

Victoria Police managed traffic control around the shopping centre as well as the centres patrons. Ambulance Victoria attended with MICA and ALS paramedics. No injuries have been reported at the time of this report. Investigators will examine the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
