Man Arrested Following Violent 7-Eleven Carjacking
Detectives from the Knox Crime Investigation Unit arrested a man after a violent carjacking. The incident occurred at a 7-Eleven in Wantirna South on the afternoon of Thursday the 23rd of April. Police confirmed officers made the arrest this morning, Friday the 24th of April in Oakleigh. They allege the man was driving the stolen vehicle at the time of the arrest.
Woman Allegedly Dragged from Vehicle
According to investigators, the incident unfolded just before 3pm.
A 62-year-old woman was approached by the unknown man at the 7-Eleven on Burwood Highway. He allegedly dragged her away from the vehicle before fleeing in it. The woman suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack however, she did not require hospital treatment.
Urgent Investigation Results in Arrest
Police launched an urgent investigation immediately after the carjacking.
Detectives worked through the night to locate the stolen Toyota RAV4. Consequently, officers found the vehicle inside 24 hours this morning in Oakleigh. They arrested a 22-year-old Noble Park man at the scene.
Multiple Charges Laid Over Alleged Offences
Police have charged the man with several serious offences. These include carjacking and theft of a motor vehicle. In addition, he faces charges of common law assault and aggravated assault. Furthermore, police charged him with unlicensed driving. Officers have also alleged drug possession offences. These include possessing prescription drugs and methamphetamine. Additionally, he faces charges for possessing proceeds of crime.
Police to Seek Custody for Accused Man
Investigators confirmed they will oppose bail and will apply to have the man remanded in custody.
