Knife Threat Inside Busy Shopping Precinct
Police have charged a 34-year-old Ivanhoe man following an alleged armed robbery at the Mountain High Shopping Centre in Bayswater on the 26th of November. The incident occurred on High Street about 12.05pm. Officers allege the offender approached a man and produced a knife before stealing the victim’s phone.
Shop Workers Describe Lockdown and Fear
Workers inside the centre reported a sudden surge of panic as the incident unfolded nearby. Several shops quickly locked their doors as a precaution. Staff said they saw people running through the mall and did not immediately know whether more offenders were involved. Although the situation resolved quickly, workers described the moment as tense and unsettling.
Rapid Police Response and Arrest
Police located the offender a short time later near the centre. The stolen phone was recovered and the knife seized. The victim was not physically injured. Yet the incident has added to growing safety concerns in Bayswater.
Accused Remanded to Face Court
The man has been charged with armed robbery and committing an indictable offence while on bail. He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on the 18th of February next year.
