Attempted E-bike Theft Sparks Police Response
A man has been charged after an alleged aggravated burglary in Wantirna South on Thursday afternoon. Police allege the 45-year-old entered an open garage on Saxby Court. He then attempted to steal an e-bike. However, the homeowner confronted him before he could escape. As a result, the man fled the scene on foot empty handed.
Dog Squad and Air Wing Deployed
Soon after the incident, police launched a coordinated response. Officers deployed the Dog Squad and Air Wing to track the suspect. Consequently, police located the man on Lewis Road at about 2:30pm. Officers then moved in and arrested him without further incident.
Sword Sighting Earlier in the Afternoon
Earlier that day, investigators allege the same man behaved erratically nearby. Witnesses reportedly saw him carrying a sword along Stud Road at about 1:30pm. At this stage, police say no reports suggest he threatened anyone with the weapon.
Charges Laid Against Rosedale Man
Police have charged the Rosedale man with aggravated burglary and possessing a prohibited weapon. He will face court at a later date.
