Fatal Incident at Gracedale Park
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death of a 91-year-old man in Ringwood this afternoon. Emergency services were called to Gracedale avenue just after 3pm, after reports a tree had fallen on a man. The incident occurred at Gracedale Park, which is used as a second oval by the Ainslie Park Cricket Club’s Third and Fourth XI’s on Saturdays.
Cricket Match Underway
At the time of the incident, a third grade cricket match was being played at the oval. The man was enjoying a day out with family. Players and spectators were nearby when the tree fell, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Emergency Response
Emergency services responded quickly including Police and Ambulance Victoria, including MICA paramedics. Despite their efforts, the man sadly died at the scene. There were unconfirmed reports of other injuries due to the tree falling and its significant size.
Investigation Underway
While detectives attended the scene and launched an investigation, Victoria Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the Coroner regarding the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
