Masked Group Storms Eaton Mall
Detectives are investigating a stabbing in Oakleigh on Friday night, the 17th April.
According to police, about 12 people were seated outside a business at Eaton Mall. However, a larger group then approached them around 7.45pm.
Investigators say the offenders wore balaclavas, which raised immediate alarm. Moreover, witnesses reported the group moved quickly toward those seated.
Machetes Used in Targeted Assault
During the confrontation, at least two offenders produced machetes. Consequently, they assaulted an 18-year-old man from Malvern East.
Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to hospital. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old male was also assaulted. However, he did not suffer physical injuries.
Offenders Flee as Investigation Continues
After the attack, the group fled the area on foot. At this stage, police have not made any arrests.
Detectives from the Monash Crime Investigation Unit are continuing enquiries. Importantly, investigators believe the incident was targeted.
Furthermore, police state the parties involved are known to each other.
Increased patrols and public appeal
As a result, officers will conduct proactive patrols in Oakleigh. This presence aims to reassure the community following the incident.
In addition, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. This includes witnesses or those with CCTV or dashcam footage.
