Tragedy in East Burwood

A motorcyclist has died tonight after a collision with a motorist at 3:50pm this afternoon. Emergency Services were called to the intersection of Burwood Highway and Mahoney’s Road in East Burwood where they were confronted with a critically injured rider.

Emergency Services Significant Response

There was a significant response with Police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics first to attend and assist the critically injured man. Police were outstanding in diverting traffic and ensuring best outcomes in all directions. Outbound traffic along Burwood Highway was unavoidably disrupted.

FRV Firefighters were notified at 3:58pm and were on scene within minutes to assist Paramedics. MICA paramedics were also required.

Male Rider Could Not Be Saved

The male rider suffered critical injuries. Despite CPR and advanced care from MICA Paramedics he could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

Investigation Continues Female Driver Assists Police

The female motorist involved in the collision stopped and stayed at the scene. She appeared shaken and was being supported after the ordeal. The woman is assisting Police with their inquiries. Officers have taken statements from eyewitnesses, and the Major Collision Investigation Unit is working to determine the exact cause of the accident. Investigations are ongoing.

Current Road Toll and Motorcycle Impact in Victoria

Victoria has seen 130 lives lost on its roads so far in 2025 – 17 more than at the same point last year, marking a sharp rise in road trauma. While motorcycles make up only around 4% of registered vehicles in the state, riders account for approximately 17% of deaths and serious injuries on Victorian roads.
