A young motorcyclist has lost his bike for a month after being caught more than doubling the speed limit in Glen Waverley in the early morning of Monday 15th September. Nunawading Highway Patrol members were conducting laser checks on the Monash Freeway when they heard the roar of a rapidly approaching motorbike just after 3am. Their laser clocked the Honda at an alleged 225km/h. The 22-year-old Narre Warren South rider was intercepted after exiting at Clyde Road and stopping at traffic lights.
When questioned, he gave police no reason for the reckless speed. Officers noted he was wearing only a tracksuit, offering no protection if he had crashed. His motorcycle was impounded at a cost of $1120.50. He will be charged on summons.
Dangerous Speeds Add to Rising Motorcycle Toll
In Australia, motorcycle fatalities rose 5.4% to 272 in 2025. Riders face a death rate around 30 times higher per kilometre travelled than car drivers.
Men over 40 remain the most represented in fatal crashes, while high-speed incidents, intersections, and regional roads account for many of the deaths. Safety experts warn that even minor crashes at extreme speeds can have catastrophic outcomes for riders.
