Calling Out the Government
The Member for Rowville, Kim Wells, has raised serious concerns in State Parliament over rising crime rates. He addressed the chamber this week, criticising the Allan Labor Government for failing to protect Victorian communities.
Crime Statistics Raise Alarm in Rowville
Recent figures for the year to December 2025 reveal a sharp rise in criminal activity. According to Mr Wells, overall offending has reached record levels across Victoria. Meanwhile, local data highlights troubling increases within the Rowville electorate. Breach of family violence orders in Rowville has risen by 44.7 per cent. Motor vehicle theft has also increased by 25 per cent.
Furthermore, nearby suburbs show similar trends. Lysterfield recorded a 21 per cent rise in family violence breaches. Aggravated burglaries surged by 116 per cent in the same area. In Wantirna South, breaches increased by 27 per cent. Car theft in that suburb also rose by 14 per cent.
Police Resourcing Under Scrutiny
Mr Wells also criticised recent budget decisions impacting policing. He stated that reduced funding has affected local police services. As a result, Rowville Police Station now operates limited hours. The station currently opens only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Operating hours run between 10am and 6pm. These changes have raised concerns about community safety and response times.
Call for Immediate Government Action
Mr Wells has urged the government to act without delay. He called on the state to provide additional resources to Victoria Police. He also pushed for the restoration of full operating hours at Rowville Police Station. Additionally, he warned that delays could worsen community safety outcomes. The issue now sits firmly on the parliamentary agenda as pressure builds for action.
