Emergency Services Respond to Kumala Road
Emergency services were called to Kumala Road in Bayswater shortly after 11pm on Saturday 30st following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. The call prompted a large multi-agency response that involved police, Air Ambulance, MICA and ALS paramedics, the CFA, and SES Knox.
Woman Trapped Beneath Toyota Kluger
It is understood the woman aged in her 50s became entrapped beneath a Toyota Kluger in a residential driveway. The pedestrian remained conscious and breathing during the ordeal.
The difficulty in treating the woman centered around the fact that she was pinned under the vehicle’s rear axle. Being completely covered by the car presented challenges for emergency services.
Extraction and Air Lift
Firefighters stabilized the Toyota while crews worked to form a safe extraction plan. Additional equipment, including rescue air cushions, were requested once SES Knox arrived and assessed the scene.
Local CFA members were tasked with gaining access to a nearby football oval. The open space allowed emergency crews to safely maneuver resources during the rescue operation.
The woman was successfully extracted from underneath the vehicle. She was treated for upper and lower body injuries and air lifted to The Royal Melbourne hospital. Her condition is described as stable.
