A 19-year-old probationary driver has been caught speeding at 176 km/h in an 80 zone on Canterbury Road, Kilsyth, with three passengers on board.
The dangerous driving incident took place at around 10:30pm on 12 July. Police say the vehicle was travelling 96 km/h above the posted limit and have impounded the car for 30 days at a cost of $1,016. The driver is expected to face court over charges of dangerous driving and other offences.
Police have warned that they will not tolerate this type of behaviour, especially following several serious injury and fatal collisions on Victorian roads over the past fortnight.
The same Highway Patrol unit also caught two other speeding drivers on Wellington Road:
An 18-year-old female probationary driver was detected driving at 127 km/h in an 80 zone in Emerald. She received a $1,018 penalty notice and lost her licence for 12 months.
A 22-year-old male driver was clocked at 118 km/h in an 80 zone in Belgrave South. He was fined $763 and lost his licence for 6 months.
“Your behaviour on the roads can result in severe consequences not just for you but for other road users, friends and family,” police stated.
