Incident Near School Gate
A school in Bayswater was placed into lockdown on Thursday the 29th of January after police responded to a safety concern nearby. The incident occurred on Orchard Road at about 2.15pm. Police allege a man approached the school gate, where a staff member asked him to leave. Importantly, no threats were made during the interaction and therefore no physical injuries were reported.
Lockdown Implemented as Precaution
Following the incident, the school was placed into lockdown as a precaution. Subsequently, students and staff were directed to remain indoors while police attended the area. Police say the measure was taken to ensure safety while the situation was properly assessed.
Police Arrest Made Nearby
Officers later located the man nearby and arrested him. Police allege a knife was found in the man’s possession. During the arrest, a taser was drawn by police but was not activated.
Charges Expected
The man, a 28-year-old from Ferntree Gully, is expected to be charged on summons. Police have confirmed the incident is being treated as isolated.

Victoria Police say there is no ongoing threat to the school or wider community. Parents are reminded that lockdowns are standard safety procedures. Police and school staff worked together to resolve the situation quickly.
