Thornbury Man Charged After Wantirna South Security Assault

Arrest Follows Cup Day Assault

A 19-year-old Thornbury man has been charged after a violent incident in Wantirna South on Melbourne Cup Day.

Police allege the man assaulted a 47-year-old security guard in a laneway beside the Burwood Highway shopping centre around 12.45pm on Tuesday, 4 November.

The guard suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital. Thankfully, he is now recovering at home.

Arrested After Being Found in Stolen Car

The same man was arrested this morning after being discovered asleep in a car allegedly broken into at Ringwood.

Detectives from the Knox Crime Investigation Unit later charged him with twelve offences, including:

  • Intentionally causing injury
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Committing an indictable offence while on bail
  • Possessing stolen goods
  • Attempted burglary

Court Appearance Expected Today

He is scheduled to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.

Police are expected to apply for remand as investigations continue into the incident.
