A Melbourne community is in mourning after the tragic death of Zoe Walker, a 38-year-old house painter found deceased inside her Upper Ferntree Gully home on Sunday morning. Walker was remembered by neighbours as a “lovely lady” whose sudden death has left the quiet suburb in shock.
Local Man Charged
Homicide Squad detectives have since charged a 46-year-old local man with her murder. He was arrested at the Seaby Avenue property shortly after police were called to the scene around 7.50am.
The man charged with her murder, who was known to Walker, appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday evening. He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in court on 15 December.
A quiet leafy street changed forever
Long time residents in the street describe Seaby Avenue as quiet. The presence of a Police car was unusual and out of place. The heavy police presence and tape was both the realization that something serious had happened and when locals first became aware that something was terribly wrong.

Just weeks before her death, she proudly shared a renovation project on her business’s social media page. In July, she posted about a personal milestone—receiving her certificate in General Construction (Painting and Decorating) from Swinburne University of Technology. In a post reflecting on her journey, Zoe Walker wrote:
“Qualified since 2014 through apprenticeships. How times have changed!”
Walker’s social media also offered glimpses into her strength and resilience, often sharing motivational messages hinting at personal struggles and perseverance.
“Be so f*ing proud of yourself for all the darkness you went through and despite it all you still choose to heal and shine and kick some f*ing a**,” one of her recent posts read.
