Attempted carjacking unfolds on Eastlink
Police have charged two men after an attempted carjacking in Scoresby on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred near a fast-food outlet at a service station along the Eastlink Freeway about 12pm. At the time, a truck was parked while its occupants briefly stopped for food.
Offenders confront driver and demand keys
According to investigators, a red Subaru sedan pulled alongside the truck during the stop. Two men exited the Subaru and approached the truck driver. They demanded the vehicle’s keys. However, the driver refused to comply. As a result, the offenders assaulted him before fleeing the scene.
Offenders flee southbound on Eastlink
After the confrontation, the two men returned to the Subaru and drove away. They travelled southbound along Eastlink, leaving the driver at the service station. Fortunately, the victim did not suffer serious injuries.
Arrests made following police investigation
Detectives from the Knox Crime Investigation Unit launched an immediate investigation. As enquiries progressed, officers tracked down two suspects the following day. Police arrested the pair in Heathmont on Monday.
Two men assisting police with enquiries
A 20-year-old man from Heathmont and an 18-year-old man from Carrum Downs are now assisting police. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the attempted carjacking. Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
