Update On Driver in FTG Fatalities

Police continue investigating the fatal collision on Burwood Highway near Oaklands Avenue in Ferntree Gully. The crash claimed the lives of two teenage passengers on the evening of Saturday the 24th of January.

Driver Released from Hospital

Police confirmed this morning that the 19-year-old Ferntree Gully driver has left hospital. Paramedics previously transported the driver under police guard following the crash. Major Collision Investigation Unit Detectives plan to interview the driver at a later date.

Victims Formally Identified

Investigators have now formally identified both passengers. Both victims were 18 years old and lived in Blackburn and Sandhurst respectively. Sadly, both teenagers died at the scene from their injuries.

Detectives Continue Witness Appeal

Detectives continue seeking witnesses who observed the collision or any events involving the vehicle prior. Likewise, police encourage anyone with dash-cam footage of the crash to come forward. Any vision of the vehicle before the crash also remains of interest to the investigators. Drivers, residents and business owners are urged to review available footage.
