Wantirna College Community Steps Up for Kids in Need
The Wantirna College community has delivered an inspiring fundraising effort for the Good Friday Appeal. Students, staff, and families took part in the 2026 iCan Challenge, a gruelling 50km walk. The event supports the Royal Children’s Hospital and its life-saving work across Victoria. Importantly, the initiative continues a long-standing tradition of grassroots fundraising for the appeal. The Good Friday Appeal has supported the hospital since 1931 through community-driven efforts.
50km Challenge Drives Massive Fundraising Effort
On Wednesday 1 April, participants walked from St Kilda to Frankston in one day. The iCan Challenge runs every two years and pushes participants to their limits. Each walker aims to raise at least $500 through sponsorship and donations. This year, more than 100 students joined the challenge, alongside staff and parents. The goal was ambitious, with organisers targeting $100,000 in total fundraising.
Fundraising Target Smashed Early
The Wantirna College community has already exceeded expectations. More than $75,000 has been raised, surpassing the original $50,000 benchmark. This result builds on the 2024 effort, which raised just over $50,000. Organisers credit strong community backing and increased participation for the surge. The final tally continues to climb as donations are still being received.

The iCan Challenge is about more than distance. It brings together the school and wider community for a shared cause. Many participants have personal connections to the Royal Children’s Hospital. That connection drives commitment, resilience, and generosity throughout the event. Support crews also play a key role, providing food, water, and encouragement along the route.
