Wildfire in Wantirna South sparks Arson Investigation

Fire breaks out in Llewellyn Park

Residents out for a late afternoon walk today this Wednesday 10th September, were confronted by a grass fire directly neighbouring the Llewellyn Park sports oval.

Families and school kids enjoying a bike ride after school quickly converged on the fiery spectacle. A plume of smoke could be seen as far as High Street Road and Cathies Lane.

Fire Crews respond within minutes

Firefighters were alerted shortly before 4:45pm and arrived within minutes. Two units from FRV Station 85 and a further two units from Scoresby CFA attended.

The outbreak was contained within minutes and was fully out in under half an hour. CFA members used thermal camera equipment to check for any remaining hot spots.

 Police Launch Arson Investigation

Eyewitnesses to today’s events, allege the fire was started by two female youths. Victoria Police arrived shortly after 5:30pm to commence their enquiries. They were seen speaking on scene to a number of individuals including minors.

It is unknown if any charges will be laid in relation to the matter.
