A driver’s attempt to convince police he was “just having a snooze” ended in disbelief for Officers in Doveton. Cardinia Highway Patrol officers noticed a white Toyota Corolla swerving along Sheaok Street about 10.30pm on the night of Tuesday the 13th. Additionally, officers observed the vehicle crawling at inconsistent speeds. Therefore, police initiated a traffic stop to assess the driver’s condition and safety to himself and the wider public.
An Oscar-Worthy Performance Unfolds
When officers approached, the 24-year-old allegedly jumped into the back seat. Moreover, he pretended to fall asleep in what officers described as an Oscar-worthy performance. However, police quickly saw through the unusual behaviour. Consequently, officers requested the driver complete a breath test.
High Reading Leads To Immediate Impound
The disqualified P-plater allegedly returned a breath test reading of 0.313. As a result, officers impounded the Dandenong man’s vehicle for 30 days. Additionally, storage fees will apply before the car can be released. Furthermore, the driver is expected to be charged on summons for drink-driving and other driving offences.
