Major Construction Confirmed
The Allan Labor Government has awarded the contract for the Knoxfield intersection upgrade. As a result, major construction will begin later this year. Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne announced Fulton Hogan will deliver the project. The company will partner with Big Build Roads. The project targets the Henderson Road and Ferntree Gully Road intersection. Importantly, the upgrade will ease congestion and improve safety.
Key Traffic Improvements Planned
Works will deliver several targeted traffic improvements. Firstly, crews will build a new left-turn slip lane from Henderson Road. Secondly, crews will extend the existing right-turn lane into Henderson Road. In addition, an extra right-turn lane will enter Henderson Road. Furthermore, crews will extend the right-turn lane into St Laurent Rise. Together, these changes will improve traffic flow and safety.
Construction Timeline And Early Works
Early utility works have already started on site. Meanwhile, major construction will begin in March. The project will increase capacity at this busy local intersection. Drivers should experience smoother travel times. Around 40,000 vehicles use this section of Ferntree Gully Road daily. Consequently, the upgrade will deliver strong community benefits.
Building On Previous Success
The project builds on upgrades near Henderson Road, including Kelletts Road. That project delivered safer access and improved traffic flow. Similarly, this upgrade aims to strengthen local road efficiency. As a result, drivers will spend less time in congestion.
