Driver Allegedly Avoids RBT in Rowville
A 71-year-old man allegedly stopped short of a Preliminary Breath Test site in Rowville on Friday the 16th of January 2026. The driver reportedly left his vehicle and hid in bushes on a stranger’s property. However, police quickly located the man nearby. As a result, officers conducted further enquiries at the scene.
Licence Cancelled and Reading Returned
Police say the man’s licence had previously been cancelled for drink-driving offences. Furthermore, the driver allegedly returned an Evidentiary Breath Test (EBT) reading of 0.050.
Vehicle Impounded and Charges Pending
Officers immediately impounded the vehicle for 30 days. The impoundment carries a cost of $1,016. Meanwhile, police will prepare charges for the man to attend court on summons. Consequently, the incident may result in further penalties if proven. Importantly, avoiding a breath test does not avoid the consequences. Instead, drivers should plan safe transport before drinking.
