Boy charged following stabbing in Clayton
Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a teenage boy after a stabbing in Clayton on Thursday morning.
Police responded to reports of an incident at a shopping centre on Blackburn Road about 7.50am.
Woman attacked on way to work
According to investigators, the 25-year-old Mount Waverley woman walked through the centre when the attack occurred.
Police allege the teenage boy stabbed the woman without warning.
As a result, the victim sustained serious injuries during the early morning incident.
Bystander steps in to assist
A passerby quickly assisted the injured woman and contacted Triple Zero (000).
Paramedics then transported the woman to hospital.
She remains in a serious but stable condition.
Arrest made shortly after incident
Meanwhile, the alleged offender fled the shopping centre immediately after the attack.
However, police located and arrested him a short time later at a medical centre in Clayton.
Teen faces multiple charges
Detectives have charged the 16-year-old boy from the Stonnington area with several offences.
These include intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury, and assault with a weapon.
In addition, charges include possessing a controlled weapon, theft, and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
Court appearance pending
The boy remains in custody following the incident.
He will appear at a children’s court at a later date.
