Emergency Crews Called Shortly After 6am
Emergency services were called to Lanyon Street in Dandenong South shortly after 6am today, Saturday the 13th of December. Reports indicated a factory fire was already well alight. Fire Rescue Victoria responded at 6:11am following multiple Triple Zero calls. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames issuing from a large industrial building.
Firefighters Arrive Within Minutes
Eight fire units reached the scene within five minutes. Specialist appliances also attended to assist with fire suppression. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus moved quickly to attack the blaze. At the same time, crews worked to prevent the fire spreading to nearby properties.
Thick Smoke Spreads Across The Skyline
Thick black smoke spread across the Dandenong skyline. An early morning breeze helped carry smoke across surrounding areas. As a result, authorities issued a community advice message. Residents were urged to remain alert to changing conditions.
Factory Located Near Greens Road
The affected property sits just off Greens Road in Dandenong South. It houses a kitchen cabinet maker and a home remodelling business. Importantly, an employee from a neighbouring factory raised the alarm shortly before 6am. No injuries have been reported at this stage.
Detectives Attend – Investigations Underway
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria attended the scene.
Detectives later arrived and began investigating the cause of the fire.
