Laughter echoed down Wadhurst Drive this Saturday 27th of July as families flocked to Kando Martial Arts Knox for its highly anticipated Open Day — a vibrant celebration of community, self-empowerment, and fun for all ages.
This is Knox Kando’s 7th Birthday celebration.
From the moment you arrive it was clear this isn’t your average martial arts studio.
The smell of popcorn filled the air, children darted between face-painting, fun activities, and instructors and club members greeted guests with warm smiles and open arms.
“We wanted to show people there’s more to martial arts than what meets the eye — it’s about confidence, growth, resilience and much more,” said Sensei Andy, head instructor at Kando Martial Arts Knox. “Today is about bringing the community together and letting families experience what Kando can do for them.”
And experience it they did!!!
One of the biggest hits were the fun interactive activities for the kids, a great opportunity to get a feel for the mats.
The face painting was a big hit too where all manner of colorful creations came to life. Parents looked on with delight, many chatting with staff about programs available while their kids got creative with glitter and paint.
Everybody loved the new local sensation – Heavenly Sweets and Treats.
Their prestige popcorn and fun Fairy Floss offers were there for young and old to enjoy.
But it wasn’t just about the little ones.
“It’s just so welcoming here,” said Emma, mother of two. “I signed up for the women’s self-defense class. I’ve never felt more encouraged to give something new a go.”
Kando’s philosophy stood out at every turn: energising kids, empowering people with opportunities for growth and bringing the community together in a supportive environment.
“There’s something really special about what they’re doing here,” said James, a first-time visitor. “It’s not intimidating. It feels like a place where you can grow — no matter your fitness level.”
The day wrapped up with the Open Day Giveaway, and plenty of happy, paint-smudged faces — proof of a successful event that lived up to its promise.
Kando Martial Arts continues to offer a wide range of programs including Adult Mixed Martial Arts classes, Women’s Self Defense classes and Kids and Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)
