Two charged after Robbery in Ringwood

Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two boys after an alleged robbery at a Ringwood shopping centre earlier this afternoon.

Police respond after victims allegedly assaulted

Police were called to reports that a group of alleged offenders assaulted several young victims before stealing a jumper in the food court of a shopping centre on Maroondah Highway about 4.30pm. Officers were also told one member of the group claimed to have a machete, although no weapon was ultimately found.

Fast arrests made inside the centre

Officers arrived quickly and located two alleged offenders — a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, both from the Maroondah area. The victims, two 14-year-old boys and a 13-year-old boy, were not physically injured during the incident.

Third boy arrested later in the evening

Investigators later found a third alleged offender, a 14-year-old boy from the Maroondah area, inside the same shopping centre. The boy was arrested without incident.

Charges laid after interviews

All three boys were interviewed by detectives. Police charged a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy with robbery, and both were bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date. A 13-year-old boy received a caution for handling the proceeds of crime.

Stolen property recovered

Police confirmed the allegedly stolen jumper was recovered, seized, and returned to one of the victims.
