Flooding Sparks Emergency Response in Wantirna
It was just after 8pm on Wednesday evening when Emergency Services were called to Nottingham Square in Wantirna. What began as a trickle quickly turned into a torrent, as water began gushing across Nottingham Square, flooding footpaths and roadways with alarming speed.
Concerned residents wasted no time alerting authorities, prompting a swift and coordinated response from Victoria Police, SES, and the local water utility.
Water was seen surging from the ground, cascading down the street and pooling in driveways and low-lying areas. Within minutes, police arrived on the scene and cordoned off Nottingham Square to protect residents and prevent vehicles from driving through the flooded area.
Water Shut Off, Situation Contained
A unit from the local water authority arrived promptly and shut off the mains supply without delay, halting the flow of water and preventing further damage to the area. Fortunately, no homes were reported as flooded, and no injuries were recorded.
SES Arrived, But Major Damage Avoided
Two units from Knox SES (State Emergency Service) were also dispatched as a precautionary measure. However, the situation had been brought under control by the water authority and their assistance was not required.
Their readiness and availability did not go unnoticed by residents and authorities alike.
