Crime Spree Targets Stores Across Eastern Suburbs
Eastern Region Crime Squad detectives arrested two boys after a fast series of robberies and burglaries across Melbourne’s east. Detectives allege the pair struck five stores between the 18th and 19th of November. Cigarettes and vapes were targeted during incidents reported in Bayswater, Ashwood, Burwood, Hawthorn and Oakleigh. Moreover, each store was struck quickly as the offenders moved between suburbs.
Burnside Heights Search Leads to First Arrest
On Thursday the 20th of November, detectives attended an address in Burnside Heights. As a result, an 18-year-old youth was arrested. He now faces 16 offences, including theft, attempted burglary and criminal damage. Other charges include robbery, common law assault and recklessly causing injury. Additional bail-related offences were included. He was remanded and appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on the same day, Thursday the 20th of November.
Second Arrest in the Knox Area Occurs the Following Day
On the following day, this Friday the 21st of November, detectives attended a Knox address. There, a 16-year-old boy was arrested. He has been charged with 18 offences, including theft, robbery and attempted burglary. Other charges included criminal damage, common law assault and recklessly causing injury. Further charges include theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods and failing to comply with a direction to assist. He remains in custody and will appear before a Children’s Court today.
Stolen Utility Allegedly Used in Offending
Police allege the pair used an Isuzu utility stolen from a Dandenong address on the 13th of November. The vehicle allegedly supported fast movement between their planned targets across the numerous suburbs. The investigation’s into these incidents remains ongoing.
