Two Critical in Monash Freeway Collision
A woman and a child are fighting for life after a serious crash in Dandenong North on Sunday the 12th April. The five-vehicle collision occurred on the Monash Freeway yesterday afternoon. Emergency services responded just after 2pm near the Stud Road off ramp. Upon arrival, crews found multiple vehicles involved in the outbound lanes.
Critical Injuries for Mazda Occupants
Paramedics treated two occupants from a Mazda 3 at the scene. As a result, a woman and a child were rushed to hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, another child from the same vehicle suffered minor injuries. Subsequently, paramedics transported that child to hospital for assessment.
Other Drivers Escape Serious Harm
Three occupants of a blue Mitsubishi also required hospital treatment. However, their injuries were not life-threatening. In contrast, occupants from a BMW, a Volkswagen Tiguan, and a white Mitsubishi escaped injury. At the same time, they remained at the scene and assisted emergency crews.
Police Investigation Underway
Police spoke with the Volkswagen driver at the scene. The 34-year-old Berwick man is now assisting investigators. The Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to examine the crash circumstances. Detectives are working to determine how the collision unfolded.
Freeway Closures Cause Major Delays
Authorities closed all outbound lanes for several hours after the crash. In addition, one inbound lane also remained shut during the response. Traffic delays quickly built across the Monash Freeway network. Motorists faced long diversions while crews cleared the scene.
