Wally Tew Pavilion Upgrade Complete
The Wally Tew Pavilion is officially back in action. The major upgrade has delivered modern, accessible and energy-efficient facilities for the whole community. Since 1980, the pavilion has stood as a landmark at Wally Tew Reserve. Now, it better supports players, volunteers and families of all ages.
Modern Facilities for a Growing Community
The redevelopment introduces several practical improvements across the site. Visitors can now enjoy a brand-new kiosk and upgraded kitchen facilities. In addition, improved umpire rooms and refreshed changerooms support local clubs. The social room has also received a full refresh. As a result, it now offers a welcoming space for gatherings and celebrations. Meanwhile, an expanded veranda provides more room for spectators. It creates the perfect setting to connect and enjoy the atmosphere on game day.
Accessibility and Sustainability at the Forefront
Importantly, the project focused on accessibility and long-term sustainability. New accessible toilets and an external staircase now offer safer, easier movement throughout the building. Furthermore, the pavilion now runs on all-electric systems. This shift improves energy efficiency and reduces ongoing operating costs.
Backing Local Sport and Events
The Victorian Government contributed $2 million through the Community Support Fund. Knox Council added a further $1.2 million to complete the project. Wally Tew Reserve remains one of Knox’s most valued community destinations. It proudly hosts Knox Fest and Carols each year. The reserve also supports the Ferntree Gully Eagles Football Netball Club and the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club.
With upgrades to the adjacent oval now complete, the reserve has entered a new era. Together, these improvements will strengthen local sport and community life for years to come.
